Public Health Communicator Kayla Nixon Launches Uterine Health Platform for Black Women

[Richmond, Virginia] – Friday, August 23, 2024 – The Uterine Care Collaborative is thrilled to announce its official launch, a groundbreaking initiative dedicated to empowering Black women by improving uterine health. Uterine Care Collaborative is a shared learning space and community hub that aims to use current research and an evidence-based approach to address the unique challenges faced by Black women with uterine health issues.

The Uterine Care Collaborative offers a range of programming, including:

  • Informative Resources: Access to evidence-based information on uterine health conditions, treatment options, and self-care strategies.

  • Community Support: Opportunities to connect with other women facing similar challenges and build a supportive network.

  • Advocacy Initiatives: Efforts to raise awareness, advocate for policy changes, and ensure equitable access to uterine care.

Research demonstrates the disproportionate health burdens faced by Black women, particularly uterine health conditions. Studies have shown that Black women are more likely to be diagnosed with uterine cancer, fibroids, and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) than their white counterparts. Black women are also more likely to receive delayed diagnoses, inadequate treatment, and poorer health outcomes for these conditions.

“We believe that Black women deserve equitable access to high-quality, comprehensive uterine care,” said Kayla Nixon of the Uterine Care Collaborative. “Our goal is to empower Black women with lifesaving knowledge and culturally competent support that helps them take control of their health.”

Uterine Care Collaborative is committed to providing an inclusive space for Black women to learn collaboratively, share their experiences, ask sensitive questions in a safe environment, and find the resources they need from a trusted source.

By fostering a community of support and providing access to evidence-based care, Uterine Care Collaborative hopes to actively play a role in reducing the health disparities that disproportionately affect Black women.
